Petcoke, coal, wood use to exhaust 1,7 more CO² than Gas

=,22 kg CO2 per kg fired clay (gas) will become 0,37 kg CO² per kg fired clay (solid energy)

if we go on an additional cost of 100€/T CO² announced in 2008 it will mean an over price of 15€/T fired product due to the emission of CO²

That’s mean that the gain for using Pet Coke instead of Gas could be not more than 10% to 20% on the energy cost of a plant.

Additional question actually the pet coke prices still be low because of increase of the production (+50%) due to poor quality of crude oil and improvements in oil refining technology but many refineries plan to use this excess of pet coke in local power plants. This will probably increase the sale price of Pet coke in the future (however is high content in SO² will maintain it price bellow coal price)

The Petcoke is usually an economic alternative in countries where the gas price is higher than 1,5 €/ 100kWh PCI and there is no cost for additional emission of CO² (USA China, South America, India,…)

Other concern is SO²
