THE pupils of SJK (C) Kong Min Pusat in Jalan Air Itam, here, will be able to study in a more comfortable environment with their school's new Monier CoolRoof.
Georg Harrasser explaining the advantages
of the Monier CoolRoof to Yao Ping Yoon and the school’s pupils.
The roof
which was provided by Monier Sdn Bhd is an energy-efficient roofing system that
helps to limit heat transfer, thus lowering the temperature of a building.
"I am
happy to say that this school is the third school to receive this CoolRoof
under our Monier CoolSchool programme since its launch last year," said
Monier chief executive officer Georg Harrasser.
"We
believe our programme should be focused on schools and improving on students'
learning environment as they are the country's future."
The roof
was in dire need of replacement but, due to the lack of funds, the school
authorities were not able to act on it sooner. Principal Yao Ping Yoon said the
contribution had really helped the school.
"Pupils
were always distracted by the rain as it was leaking and it would get very hot
when it didn't rain. It was also harbouring bats.
"With
the new roof, the heat from the sun is much more bearable and we are able to
reduce the electricity used to cool down the classrooms," Yao said.
The two
other schools which have received the CoolRoof are SMK Sultan Abdul Samad,
Petaling Jaya, and SK (P) Methodist, Kuantan.
Harrasser
also launched a Monier CoolSchool contest for primary and secondary schools in
Perak, Kedah and Perlis.
They have
to submit creative stories about why they deserve a free Monier CoolRoof. The
winning school in each state will have its roof replaced. The contest runs
until Sept 24.
