USA - Pine Hall Brick: One of NC's top private companies

MADISON — A local private company is being recognized as one of the largest businesses by revenue in the state of North Carolina.

Pine Hall Brick Company, which is headquartered in Winston-Salem and owns three plants in Madison, was named to the 2016 Grant Thornton North Carolina 100 on Oct. 24.
“We are honored to be included on this year’s Grant Thornton North Carolina 100 list,” said Fletcher Steele, president of Pine Hall Brick Company, in a release. “This award reaffirms our prominence in the marketplace and our commitment to the community. We are proud to be recognized as one of the largest privately held businesses in North Carolina.”
The Grant Thornton North Carolina 100 has been ranking the state's largest private companies by revenue in the most recent fiscal year since 1984. The NC 100 is a voluntary list that does not publicly trade stock.
The brick manufacturer ranked 76th on the list released in the October issue of Business North Carolina - up five spots from its 2015 ranking.
“We believe that reflects a continuing recovery in our economy, as well as a continuing demand for products like ours that have brought durability and aesthetic appeal to both commercial and residential projects for almost a century,” Steele added.
The company, founded in 1922, employs 254 workers between its Winston-Salem headquarters and its Fairmount, Georgia and Madison operations.
Pine Hall Brick is one of the biggest suppliers of clay pavers in the United States and has 150 distributors scattered across 38 different states. The company that has always been headquartered in Winston-Salem, originally began manufacturing brick in Pine Hall.
In 1936, the company moved to Madison and has since grown, including the 1996 construction of an automatic clay paver plant that uses robots to make clay brick pavers that are used around the country for residential patios and driveways.
In 2004, the company added a manufacturing facility in Fairmount. Four years later, after expanding their original plant, they added another facility in Fairmont that is known for its clay mixing system.
Pine Hall Brick Company face brick and pavers are made of just clay and water, making them compliant with EPA regulations.
